When Like Comes wins Golden Horse award

Taiwanese spouse and children drama When Like Comes has won greatest film on the Golden Horse awards - observed as the Chinese-language Oscars - in Taoyuan, northern Taiwan.

The low-budget movie regarding the lives of four ladies beat Hong Kong martial arts epic Bodyguards and Assassins and Chinas Judge to win the leading award.

Chinas Lu Liping won greatest actress for emotional drama City Monkey.

And Tawian pop idol Ethan Juan Ching-tien was named greatest actor for his role in gangster movie Monga.

Acclaimed Taiwanese movie director Chang Tso-chi collected his second greatest image award for When Like Comes, which led the race with 14 nominations and took another two technical prizes.

‘I desire to thank my team and my mother and father. I did not let them down,’ he said on the ceremony.

Chang final won the coveted prize for the 2002 drama The most effective of Occasions.

The most effective director award went to Taiwans Chung Mong-hong for the Fourth Portrait about marriages of convenience and domestic violence.

It was a shock win for Chung, who saw off favourites Chang and Hong Kongs Teddy Chen for Bodyguards and Assassins.

‘I am so delighted. This can be these a shock. I imagined director Chang Tso-chi deserved it extra,’ he said as he collected his award.

The film, which touched on other social concerns including child abuse and prostitution, also picked up awards for outstanding Taiwanese film on the year and greatest supporting actress for Chinas Hao Lei.

Regardless of being nominated for nine awards, Teddy Chens film only picked up a single for greatest make-up and costume layout.

Hong Kong martial art master Sammo Hung won his second consecutive award for greatest action choreography for Ip Man 2, the lifestyle story on the mentor of kung fu star Bruce Lee.
